Unbelievable what’s going on right now! At the moment I only want to thank you very much! Firstly for crossing your fingers for me during the Olympic Games and secondly for the amazing amount of best luck wishes I got from you. I am really proud to have such amazing fans! Thank you!
Yours
Maria
At Cortina not everything went so perfect for me. After a great fault at the Super-G I only could achieve the 15th place. But the downhill the day after went even better. Lindsey again wasn’t beatable but I had a great race and I am really satisfied with my second place. At the Giant Slalom on Sunday I surely could have achieved a better place after my 5th position at the first run. But after a great fault at the second run I only could achieve the 8th place. As you know this position isn’t really bad for me at a giant slalom.
At the overall Welt Cup results I am in a good rank (56 points less than Lindsey), but as there are still a lot of speed races it will be difficult to keep this position…
The week in Cortina was really funny! We had great weather and marvellous conditions!
Tomorrow we will travel to St . Moritz. I have really good memories of this place, as I achieved some podium places there. It would be great if that would work out again next weekend!
There will take place the last World Cup competitions before the Olympics and of course I want to achieve some more self confidence for the upcoming Olympic Games.
Of course I will write to you before I leave for Canada.
See you soon!
Yours Maria
At the last three races I was on the podium! It’s really working fine for me at the moment. Only the Night Slalom in Flachau was a small disappointment for me (despite my 2nd place). As my sister and I were first and second after the first run, we wanted to keep it like- we had been nearly a second faster as the others. But unfortunately at the Slalom everything changes in a moment. So that at the end Sue was disqualified and I made a big fault at the second run, so that we had to cede the victory to the Austrian Marlies Schild.
Despite that the Night race was really fun, because the atmosphere was really amazing.
The last weekend in Maribor couldn’t have been better. Particularly my first podium place at the Giant Slalom I was awaiting for so long was balm for my soul. It wasn’t possible to be better as Kathrin Zettel and so the World Cup stays exciting. The decision will be made at the end of the season in March at the final in Garmisch.
Today I finally have a free day at home in Garmisch. I am really happy to travel tomorrow as the overall World Cup leader to Cortina d’Ampezzo. There we will have a slalom and two speed races at those probably Lindsey will get back her leadership at the World Cup.
But: Of course I will give everything to keep up with her!
Greets,
Maria
Well, the weekend in Haus was really one with “missed chances”. The 3rd place at the downhill on Friday was okay, but my race was everything else but perfect. Maybe I could have been better than Lindsey on that day. I knew that I had enough time saved, but at the race I was too tense and so I did mess up some of the curves. So I got the 7th place and no podium place. The Super-G on Sunday was my biggest disappointment. I had a really good race and I noticed that I was really in good time. Just before the finish line a mishap occurred and I missed again a top result. My exasperation was big and I only wanted to go away from the stadium as fast as possible!
Today we had Slalom training on the Reiteralm. The target for me was to manage the change from the long Downhill ski (2,10m) to the short Slalom ski (1,60m) in a short time. We had a great prepared slope and we also got a ski-doo for our disposal, which took us faster to the start again as the long ski-lift-cabin. The training was great and I had a great feeling on the short skis.
Keep your fingers crossed for me at the race tomorrow evening. I am really looking forward to it. At night-races is always a really special atmosphere and to race in Austria is always great, as the atmosphere is incomparably! Nevertheless: I want the red tricot back!
Greetings,
Maria
The end of the year in Lienz wasn’t really good for me, but such days are normal and as an athlete you have to cope with those defeats…
I will spend New Years Eve with my sister Sue and some friends. First we will have Fondue, on midnight we will cheers to the New Year and then I will go to bed early, as I want to pass by at the ski jumpers in the morning. Afterwards I will drive to Maria Alm and train for the Slalom to get hopefully back my good shape. After the training we will travel to Zagreb, where the next Slalom World Cup race will take place on the 3rd of January.
I wish you all a healthy and happy New Year 2010!
Sincerely
Yours Maria
Its short-time after midnight and I am finally back at home from a quite turbulent, but at least partially successful weekend in Are. As our charter arrived in Zurich, we had after arrival at 8 PM still a three hours drive home…
It’s a pity that I again couldn’t manage to show what I can at the Giant Slalom on Saturday. I really had a good race until my disqualification and I am trying to think positively about it and to take those positive thoughts to the next races.
Especially in the second run the Slalom was really hard to ski, because of the fog the visibility was really bad and as leader after the first run I had to deal with the bumpy slope. I definitely didn’t want to be disqualified again and so I am quite pleased with my second position and the additional 80 World Cup points. More over it was really particular to stay on the podium with my sister Susanne!
Apart from that the journey to Sweden was quite unspectacular. Due to the charter flight we exceptionally hadn’t troubles with our luggage and all got their bags.
For me it starts again on Tuesday morning when we travel to Val d’Isere where we will challenge three races after two day of training. As I won last February the gold medal at the Slalom, I will go back to Val d’Isere with a good feeling and I am looking forward to the races.
I hope you too!
Yours Maria
After two exhausting weeks with only one ski-free day (the journey day from USA to Canada) I arrived yesterday in Munich- unfortunately with three hours delay.
The weekend in Lake Louise was really good for me. As I couldn’t have so many speed-trainings in summer and Autumn I was really anxious how I would cope with the Downhill and Super-G. I already have achieved some times a podium place in Lake Louise and I really love the track, so that I had a really good feeling. Specially that I was only 35 hundredth behind my friend Lindsey Vonn pleased me. Lindsey has dominated the downhill discipline in the last two years and won a lot of races with more than one second winning margin… Also the 5th place at the Super-G was okay, in particular because I was quite exhausted on Sunday as I had caught a cold because of the extremely cold weather at the Canadian Rockies ( 30 degrees under zero!)
Tomorrow morning I travel to Kühtai (nearby Innsbruck-Austria) for the Slalom training and on Thursday I take the flight from Zürich to Östersünd/Sweden. At the weekend we have the next 2 technical competitions in Are.
See you soon!
Cordially,
Maria
The race in Aspen didn’t work out that good for me. But I have to say, that the conditions were really hard. The slope was like a skating ring and so also the best skiers had troubles with the grip. I am not really upset about my performance at the Giant Slalom. At the first round I made a quite big mistake, but I could manage the iced slope quite well so that I finished as 14th. For being my “problem discipline” I finished better than in Sölden.
Of course for the Slalom I expected more, but especially in the upper part of the first round I had problems and could hardly avoid to fell off- In the second round I was better, but my two seconds behind the first weren’t recoverable. My 5th rang was behind expectations, but looking at it from another perspective: Of the overall world cup favourites (Vonn, Pärson, Görgl) I did the most points that weekend.
At the moment I am in Denver at the Airport hotel. Tomorrow morning we take off to Calagary and will drive to Lake Louise from there. On Tuesday we will start with the downhill training! I am looking forward to the speed-week in Canada!
Greets!

Puh, I am quite tired! But fortunately we finally arrived in the
We will train here the next three days, before we leave for

Wow! I really won the first Slalom of the season in Levi! After my rather weak training performance of the last weeks I didn`t really had a good feeling about the race. I had never thought that I would be able to win the race ! The more lucky I am that it worked out. A good start is specially at Slalom very important for the self-confidence and for the upcoming races.
Today trainings starts again on the Reiteralm in Schladming (Austria). There I am training the next two days for the Super G and Gigant Slalom. On Friday I fly to Moscow where a racing show in parallel slalom is taking place on Saturday. On Sunday evening I will arrive in Munich and on Monday I fly again- this time to the US for the preparation for the next World Cup in Aspen.
More infos soon!

I just arrived back home from Haus im Ennstal from two good training days. On Saturday our trainers had prepared the slope with water and thankfully for the cold temperatures we had a good iced slope and perfect racing conditions. On Wednesday morning our flight to the far north departs. So we will be able to train a little bit on Thursday in Levi. On Friday will take place the so called “slope inspection”, where we have for one hour the possibility to test the snow and to get the first fine tuning for the material.
I feel healthy and physically good, but I am not sure if I will achieve my sensational performance of the last season- we will see.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me!
Greets,
Maria
After the race in Sölden it was a quite busy time for me: Sportstudio in Mainz, Slalom training at the Reiteralm, Blickpunkt-Sport and DSV-fitting in Herzogenrauch, training, presentation of the Olympic outfits, again training, etc. Last week we were in Haus im Ennstal for the Slalom and Super-G training. The conditions weren’t the best, but I made the best out of it. Before we fly to Finnland next week we will be on Slalom training for two days. There I will try to get the last tweak for the first Slalom race of season in Levi and hope to present myself in an excellent shape.
See you soon!
